THE MOST SPECIAL CHAPELS IN IBIZA

Ibiza is much more than turquoise coves and endless nights. A land of contrasts, the island also preserves an intimate and quiet spiritual heritage, scattered across hills, villages and rural paths. Its chapels and churches—simple, understated and deeply connected to the land—tell the story of a slower, more contemplative Ibiza, closely tied to nature. These are some of the most special ones.

Church of Sant Miquel de Balansat

Located in the north of the island, Sant Miquel rises like a white fortress atop a small hill. Built in the 14th century as a refuge church against pirate attacks, its robust and austere architecture reflects the defensive character of rural Ibiza. Inside, light filters in shyly, creating a quiet, almost mystical atmosphere. Surrounded by fields and almond trees, the setting invites you to pause, breathe, and see the island at a different pace.

Chapel of Sant Ciriac (or Sant Ciríac)

Right in the heart of Dalt Vila stands this small chapel filled with symbolism. According to tradition, this is where Catalan troops entered the city in 1235, marking the end of Muslim rule. Sant Ciriac is discreet, almost hidden, yet its historical value is immense. Visiting it means stepping into one of the founding moments of modern Ibiza, with views that seamlessly connect the past to the Mediterranean.

Church of Santa Inés de Corona

Set within one of the island’s most iconic landscapes, Santa Inés is synonymous with absolute calm. Famous for the almond blossoms that surround it every winter, this 18th-century church represents Ibiza at its most rural and authentic. Its architecture is sober, functional and full of light, perfectly in tune with its surroundings. Time seems to stand still here—especially at sunset, when silence is broken only by the wind or a distant bird.

Capelleta d’en Serra

Small, humble and deeply local. Capelleta d’en Serra is one of those places you won’t usually find in guidebooks, yet it’s well worth discovering. Located in a quiet inland area, this chapel bears witness to popular devotion and to the importance of such spaces as community gathering points. With no ornamentation or pretension, its beauty lies precisely in its simplicity.

 

Capella de Sa Talaia

At the foot of Sa Talaia, the highest point in Ibiza, this chapel brings spirituality and nature together. Its privileged location invites contemplation, with views opening onto the island’s interior landscape. It’s a perfect place to understand the historic relationship between Ibicencos and their land: respect, observation and balance. An ideal spot for those seeking a more introspective Ibiza.
