NICOLAS BOYER

Nicolas Boyer was born in the south of France in 2000. As a fat child, he quickly came to understand the importance of body norms and standards, as well as beauty diktats. Born into a religious and practising family, with a Christian mother and a Muslim father, he grew up between two distinct religions, while his mother insisted on a Catholic upbringing. As he grew up, he became aware that homosexuality was not uni- versally accepted in the Church, due to strict interpretations of sacred texts.

He began his sewing apprenticeship at the age of 15 in a specialized school, then moved to Paris at 18 to study fashion and art. In 2018, he began making sculptural, monstrous and grotesque designs by instinct, before realizing that they externalized his feelings. As he continues to experiment, playing with breaking «norms» and ideals, he realizes that each of his creations possesses a commitment to the representation of minorities within our contemporary society.

In 2020, Nicolas Boyer releases his first collection called «Cadavre Exquis» accompanied by a joint manifesto, with the aim of protesting against size standards emanating from the fashion industry. In 2022, he released his second collection, «The Nameless Crime», a tribute to the victims of homotherapy in the Catholic Church, highlighting these barbaric practices. In 2023, he decided to use his experimental «Croy Chosa» silhouette, created in 2020, as a starting point and create a collection in its own right. According to him: «This proposal goes beyond the context of an experimental silhouette and explores a very specific creative process». His intention with «Croy Chosa» is to magnify the fat body, often dismissed, rejected, prohibited, but also imbued with a predominantly distorted representation.

Nicolas Boyer creates garments exclusively by molding, based on an original structure, a specific shape, a specific body... and always with the idea of one-of-a-kind pieces. He sees his creations as sculpture objects, going beyond the simple garment and questioning the limits of the wardrobe. In order to highlight a subject, to upset, to provoke, to educate.

His collections were presented at the «In & Out», «Horizons Extrasolaires» and «DIG» exhibitions
at the Crypt Gallery in London and at the 35/37 in Paris between 2021 and 2023. They were worn by Tess McMillan at the Business Of Fashion Gala in 2023, and have also been featured in numerous magazines such as Vogue China, Vogue Ukraine, Vogue Czechoslovakia, Numéro Netherlands, Numéro China, Luncheon Magazine, Document Journal, Beauty Papers, and many others.
